Big Apple Brunch๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ @ Marriott Marquis, Vegan Menu Review๐ŸŒฑ

There's a change coming about in Doha. Slowly but surely, vegan options are popping up all over the place.....some are amazing, some are terrible and some aren't even vegan (....excuse me, can I ask if this is cheese on my VEGAN wrap??..yes. yes it is๐Ÿ˜‘).

So we tried out the New York Steak House's, Big Apple Brunch, Vegan Menu. Ironic that a steak house is providing a vegan option, but we are all for that change, and well done Marriott!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Here's their culinary offerings to the herbivores...

I'm going to talk about food initially. But if you're interested in the service, (and the shenanigans) we experienced, do read on till the end (shout out watermelon puker....๐Ÿคข๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿธ).

First up was the Cauliflower Soup.

It was nice, but it wasn't the best. It's quite a watery soup, and the cauliflower flavours were overpowered by the garlic. I LOVE garlic, but this kind of just tasted like watery garlic soup.

Next up, the tempura.

This was absolutely delicious. Crispy and flavourful, we had mange tout's, sliced carrots, broccoli and cauliflower served with a delicious tomato-based dip. This was so good, the other half ordered another plate almost immediately.๐Ÿคค๐Ÿ’š

We broke this up with the tomato salad (it was a pretty standard tom salad...):

We then moved on to the Tofu Scramble.

This came with cubed potato's, and a triangle of white toast. IT WAS DIVINE. Tiny, but absolutely delicious. I thought I'd mastered Tofu scramble, but what the chef did here was simple, yet absolutely gorgeous. The perfect seasoning on the tofu and the toast and potato's were a perfect accompaniment. A great brunch dish. I ate two, (because let's face it, I'm not about these teeny portions....)๐Ÿคค๐Ÿ’š

We ordered a plate of the risotto:

Although the presentation was gorgeous, it lacked seasoning and was a little too wet for our liking, we prefer a good sticky risotto.

Onto the Vegan Burger and Fries (3 martini's down...pictures are getting worse...๐Ÿฅด)!

The burger was not faux meat, which some vegans will be super happy about, the other half did mention it would be nice to have had the option of a Beyond. As with most bean-based burgers, they don't hold together well, so one light squeeze of the bun resulted in some squooshing and smooshing of the patty out the side of the bun. It was tasty though, and we enjoyed the chipotle sauce accompaniment. I think someone slipped with the salt shaker on those fries though..... (Would you like some fries with your salt?).

They had a great selection of martinis and cocktails, to which we enjoyed a good few watermelon martini's, (as did the table up from us...more on that later๐Ÿ˜œ.

We didn't try the grilled rapini or the fruit and berry salad. Not because we didn't want to, but because we struggled to get service as the brunch went on. ๐Ÿ˜…

Here's the packages (for a two-hour setting):

QR295 per person with non-alchohlic beverages

QR395 per person with alcoholic beverages

Now, for folks just interested in the food, that's your lot. If you'd like to know more about our experience, please read on:

This was a sit-down brunch (as with all brunches post-COVID), and the service wasn't great. Now with that said, another person who tried the brunch on the same day reported a completely opposite experience and thought it was amazing, so perhaps this was just a bad one-off experience for us in terms of service.

The constant flagging down of the waiters to get some food ordered or a drink became quite exhausting๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ. This is only a 2-hour session, so you'd like to feel as if you're getting your money's worth in food and beverages, we ended up missing out on dessert and another dish as we just couldn't get their attention. I asked four separate times if it would be possible to ask the chef his secret behind the tofu. He was a little busy doing the rounds to the other tables I think, and that's ok of course! The manager and waiters certainly didn't have much interest in us and it was difficult to grab anyone's attention. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Funnily enough, the table who had non stop waiter service, managers and the chef attending to them, was a table of two couples, with a third joining them later. The loudest table in the place hands down๐Ÿ“ข. I'm going to have to give a not so great shout out to the guy who I had to tell twice that he was in the women's toilet, and his friend who threw up his watermelon martini's all over the corridor๐Ÿคข. Now we love a good drink, and to this group, I would like to use the old "I remember my first beer" statement...but these guys were definitely pushing 50๐Ÿ˜…...

So all in all, I want to celebrate the fact that the Marriott Marquis has created a decent and well valued Vegan brunch menu! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’š Do give them a try Doha folk!
