Introducing our Vegan of the week.....A Reum!๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ

What made you become Vegan/Plant-Based?

I got really sick about 3 years ago and since then Iโ€™ve been having an unhealthy relationship with food. After many trials and failures I realized animal products donโ€™t agree with my body. I eliminated them and let my body heal with food that it needs. I am still sick but my symptoms are manageable with plant based eating. This is the best decision I ever made for myself!

What benefits do you see/feel since becoming Vegan?

For the direct benefit that I personally experienced is my health. I experienced the bottom of unhealthiness for 3 years. The fact that I am able to get up and go about my day is a miracle and I am so grateful that I get to live my life again. But other important benefits that come with plant based lifestyle are a clear mind and conscience, knowing that I am doing the right thing for the animals and the environment.

Are there plenty of Vegan food options where you live?

There are few specialized vegan restaurants and many local restaurants serve vegan friendly options. And I see many vegan items in my grocery stores which makes me so happy knowing that companies are finally going in the right direction and including vegan options!

Are any of your friends or family Vegan?

Not yet, but my husband and my mother in law are about 80% plant based and my sister is very interested in going plant based! Luckily none of my family members are against my lifestyle since itโ€™s helping with my health problems.

Is there anything you donโ€™t like about being Vegan?

Not really. I guess sometimes my grocery shopping time can take a bit longer because I read every ingredient list. But it can be fun, you can learn so much about what goes into your body by reading labels!

What is your favourite Vegan meal/food?

I have too many to choose from but I love making veganized Korean food. If you havenโ€™t tried Korean food yet, you definitely should give it a try!

Is there any Vegan food you dislike?

I learned to like things I used to not enjoy such as eggplants and beets, but I am still struggling with sauerkraut. And since I am still new and learning there are many foods I have not tried yet. I am willing to try at least once though!

Have you got any top tips for anyone who may be starting a plant-based/vegan lifestyle?

Start with educating yourself. There are many science based studies available where you can get credible resources to teach yourself why vegan lifestyle is good for you and for the environment. Allow yourself to take baby steps because every little step you take makes the difference. And finally, find a friend who can inspire you to keep it going either in real life or online! Make new friends and this journey will be filled with joy and fun.

Your final thoughts?

I started this journey for survival, purely for myself. But I learned so much in a short time that this lifestyle isnโ€™t just benefiting me, it benefits everything around me. If you are thinking about going vegan, donโ€™t hesitate and just go for it! You wonโ€™t regret your choice! We have such a welcoming community and everyone is willing to teach and learn from each other.
