Shakespeare & Co Review 🍴 🌱

Shakespeare & Co. With branches all over the Gulf, this has become a super popular brekky, brunch and lunch spot for ex-pats and locals alike. Each restaurant is overly decadent, ornate and not at all like late sixteenth-century England....but still. People LOVE it. It wasn't the best place for a vegan feed, until recently....

So when news came through that they had upped their vegan game...we were all over it. Off for lunch, we went. Each menu item which is vegan has a little green VEGAN stamp by it. Perfect, easy to order and plenty to choose from.

We ordered the Trio of Hummus to start with.

Beetroot, Jalapeno & regular hummus, with delightful crispy triangle's of fried bread to dip. We also used the bread from the breadbasket to dig in. Each was super creamy and flavourful, but the stand out winner was the jalapeno hummus, not too spicy, but a lovely tingle on the tongue.

Next up, we shared the Burrito Bowl.

Rice, avocado, roasted sweet potato, black beans, red cabbage, pickled red onions, raspberry chipotle sauce (omg), and cilantro. This was absolutely delicious, the flavours really compliment each other and the sauce is a DREAM🀩. I need this in my life and I will now go on a weeks mission to recreate....(anyone have a recipe?). The only change for us would be the rice. The rice was sticky white rice, I think perhaps a basmati grain would have been better suited to the dish.

Lastly, we order the Cauliflower Taco's.

Yes πŸ‘ Yes πŸ‘ Yes πŸ‘ . Winner winner, cauli dinner. Softshell taco's, crispy cauliflower, coriander, sweet & sour slaw, tomato salsa, lime and tahini sauce. Absolutely divine, a total taste revelation. Messy? Yep! Worth it? 100%! We couldn't get enough and ended up ordering a second plate.🀀

There were other vegan items on the menu which we didn't try (helllooooo next visit), such as the vegan grilled cheese (which was unavailable on our visit), the Voodles, an acai bowl and a vegan curry. We are just so impressed that Shakespeares has picked up the huge gap in the vegan market out here and produced excellent vegan optionsπŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ .

We can't explain how nice it was to eat at a restaurant without having to scrutinize the menu and see what you could veganize πŸ’š. We need more of these restaurants to follow this lead, (we're talking to you Cheesecake factory & Magnolia bakery.... 😜).
